VOMEPORTO - Let's see what future brings
Brasilian VOMEPORTO works on scene by nice few years but they don't get any special success yet. But, there is a chance that they will haunt Europe in next year to destroy our continent by their brutal Death Metal. In topic of band things and everydays problems i have questioned Cristiano - which is serving guitar and which is using his strong throat.
Hell’o Cristiano! What's going on bro?
Cristiano: Hi Robin!!!! Well, everything goes well here bro, let´s talk about Vomepotro ... we´re promoting our 2nd full-length called “Liturgy Of Dissection” by the way, so far as we know it´s going very well into the underground scene with the support from Sevared Rec. (our record label) because they have a great distribution & promotion, every day we see a good review of the album in zines & webzines and our myspace page has helped us to publish the band too.
You were formed in 1996 but you aren’t well known in Poland. Could you tell us a story of Vomepotro?
Cristiano: That´s right we started to play in the band 13 years ago! Vomepotro was born with the purpose to play death metal or so-called brutal death metal and since the first rehearsals our music sounds like a lethal combination of the extreme metal made in Brazilian lands with great influences of the most brutal death metal played in (US), we´re death metal maniacs and I think is amazing to play this style so grotesque and intense!!!! After almost 13 years in the underground we conquer our first contract with the German label called “Obscure Domain Prod.” to release the 1st full-length of Vomepotro entitled “Zombie Gore Vomit”, this album gave us great acceptation in underground press, good reviews about it, interviews in many zines & webzines, then the American label called “Sevared Rec.” has done a new offer to work with us and after few conversations this agreement happened and now our 2nd full-length is out through of this great label!!!
Brazilian bands specialized in Brutal Death Metal. What do you think what is a reason?
Cristiano: It´s hard to say, I think the difficulties we have in our country as well as the anger with the Brazilian problems (violence, poverty, corruption) give us strength of will to show our dissatisfaction through the music and play brutal death metal is good way to do it ... hahaha, besides this kind of music be very popular here too.
Is too difficult to play Death Metal in Brazil? I think about recording albums, playing concerts and supporting from maniacs?
Cristiano: That´s right bro, you´re sure!! We have good studios but to record an album you need cash and sometimes you don´t know support to do it, we live in an country where the metal is very popular but it lives far away of the mainstream and then you play metal because you love it, there´s in money in the scene if you don´t have a deal with a major label, in Brazil happen gigs everywhere!!! Sometimes the show promoters can´t to pay to the bands and it´s impossible to be in the stage without conditions to show their music, it´s very difficult bro, anyway, we perceive the Brazilian scene comes to changing little by little, let´s see what will happen in the future.
There is Sepultura’s cover on your album. Is this band important to you?
Cristiano: Yes!!! Sepultura is a great influence for all in Vomepotro, we love your thrash metal, unfortunately I think the band doesn’t have more power in your new albums like in 80´s and 90´s, the last release of Sepultura to me is “Arise”, it´s brutal, fast and intense, after this albums everything sounds with elements of new metal ... a big SHIT!!!!
How the other bands had an impact on you?
Cristiano: Well, I had a great impact when I’ve listen for the first time bands such as Metallica, Slayer, Kreator and many others... it was pretty cool when I knew the Death Metal, my mind has been totally possessed by the brutal riffs and I remember I said... “I want to play this music”!!! 16 years later I’m still here because Metal is a way of life!!! By the way, nowadays isn´t different, if I know a new band and it sounds as I like I’m sure your music will have some influence in my way to play and de-compose.
I didn’t hear „Zombie Gore Vomit”. Could you tell us about differences between “Zombie…” and “Liturgy…”?
Cristiano: “Liturgy of dissection” is much better than “Zombie ...”, of course we love the two albums but our 2nd full-length had your production more professional, it was produced for ourselves and I’m sure everything sounds more brutal and intense, the “Zombie ...” has songs we´ve done to the Vomepotro´s demos and re-recorded it to the album but this new release is totally fresh, we de-compose each one of them to the “Liturgy ...”, I can´t to forget to say the 1st album gave us the chance to sign with Sevared Recs. and we´ve read good reviews about it in many webzines and mags, we´ll always be in evolution process to realize the best album in each release of Vomepotro.
Brazil is a country of many contrasts. Sandy beaches, beautiful women, many tourists and money, amazing carnival. On the other side poor people, crimes and drug gangs.
Is that true? Why is this happening?
Cristiano: Yeah bro, it´s sad but true!!! Unfortunately our government doesn´t matter with these problems, maybe, they have more interest in Olympic Games & World Cup than the situation of the country, I’m sad because Brazil is a beautiful country to live and is an offense to see my homeland in degradation!!!! The distribution of money isn´t honest here, you see
a lot of people with conditions to buy what they want but at the same time I watch an homeless claiming help to keep alive and survive, it´s hard to say what happens but I think this situation will never change.
How is Sao Paulo a place to live? It is biggest city in South America. Is it dangerous city?
Cristiano: Yeah, it´s violent, anyway, you need to know where you´re going to be save because there are places where the criminality reigns and other places where you can walk by the streets without fear.
Have you ever met someone from well known Brazilian bands? You know Sarcofago or Sepultura?
Cristiano: We know the guys from Krisiun, they are cool brothers!!! Sepultura and Sarcofago are a great influence for us and would be great be friends of them but unfortunately we don´t know these guys.
Are You a football fan or do you prefer F1 racing? You have Formula 1 track in Sâo Paulo. Have you ever been there?
Cristiano: Yes I do!!!! I don´t need to say that football is the game more popular here ... hahaha, I don´t watch the F1 in TV, it´s cool too but I prefer football, no, no ... I have never been there, maybe one day, why not???
The city of Rio de Janeiro has been elected to host an Olympic Games in 2016. Is it a chance for the others cities like Sâo Paulo?
Cristiano: It´s hard to say but I think the Rio De Janeiro is very appreciated for the world, by the way, there is interest of the politicians show to the people that it is a good place to know and walk by the streets without fear with your family and the violence doesn´t be more important because the government comes resolving this problem.
Let us something about Vomepotro’s plans?
Cristiano: Good question ... well, keep the band alive!!! We´re projecting an possible tour around Europe/2011, would be sick to be in Poland and share the stage with sick Polish bands, drink beers and make new friends!!! Let´s start to de-compose new songs to our 3rd full-length ... I don´t but there´s a lot of things to do and hard work too … hehehe
Thanks for your answers bro! Say something to polish maniacs!
